The Appointment

I own and operate Magpie Ink Studio in Bucktown, at 1913 N Milwaukee Ave.
We keep our door locked for security reasons, so please knock or email me when you get to the studio.
-
Due to space limitations, Magpie does not allow guests without appointments.
There are a few coffee shops around the studio, such as Oromo Cafe, Ipsento 606 (open until late), Thrd Coffee, etc. Feel free to let your guest know they can wait around the studio if they would like.

1. Eat a good meal.
Getting tattooed lowers your blood sugar, which can cause people to pass out. The more carbs and sugar, the better.
2. Stay hydrated.
Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of. Make sure to bring some water with you as well. There’s extra water for you at the studio if needed.
3. Do not drink alcohol.
Alcohol thins your blood and therefore you will bleed more during the tattoo process. The more you bleed, the harder it is for the ink to enter your skin and for me to see the area I’m tattooing. It will be more time consuming and expensive as a result. You may even require another session. Being hungover will cause excessive discomfort for you as well.
4. Moisturize.
Keep the area moisturized at least 7 days prior to your appointment. Dry skin makes it harder for the ink to enter your skin and as a result, it will be more time consuming and expensive.
5. Wear appropriate clothing.
I need to be able to access whatever location the tattoo is in. Please make sure you wear or bring something that will be comfortable for you during the process. Wear something dark or you don’t care about too much, as you may potentially end up with ink stains on your clothing.

Tips are not expected, but always appreciated!

Yes. If you decide to do so, please let me know beforehand. I recommend either Zensa or Madrabbit.
Do a patch test for any allergic reactions at least 2 days before the appointment.
For the day of, apply a thick layer onto the skin at least an hour before the appointment. You should be able to visibly tell that there's numbing cream on your skin.
Wrap the area around with cling film, airtight.
Do not take off the wrap before you come in. I will take it off for you at the appointment.
